Mexican Cruise

Our vacation gave me a killer head cold so I'm barely functioning, but I was getting all sorts of crap about not posting photos from our trip, so here are a few. Tim and I are on the beach in Cabo with our cruise ship behind us. Yes, that is me hanging upside down at the Giggling Marlin in Cabo. Tim had to be double-dog-dared, but he finally caved and was hung upside down too. We couldn't let the 20-something Appletons out do the 30&40-something Babbitts! The other photo is of Tim and I with the Santa Monica pier behind us on Sunday before our flight home we did a little sight seeing in LA.

Scrabble Challenge

During our Mexican Cruise, some rousing games of scrabble took place. However, no dictionary was to be found on the Vision of the Seas, so we improvised by asking strangers to verify the words were in fact part of the English language. We had a few disagreements, so upon arrival home today, I pulled out the Websters.

NIX - valid word. Sorry Karen - no "10 scrabble points IOU" will be coming your way.
ZERK - no entry in Dictionary.com or Websters. Why did we let the boys snow us with this one?
CAM - darn it, this is a valid word. Imagine that, Tim was right!
JIFF - it does have two "FF's". See, Timmy, we were right!
ZITS - it might be slang, but its a valid word in Websters!
EDAM - well what do you know, this IS cheese! Whoops! Sorry Karen!

Thank you Christophers and Apppletons for some wonderful memories on our vacation! We'll have to do it again so we can play more scrabble. Tim has a strong desire to win!

Kaitlyn Addresses the Mayor!

Kaitlyn, and four of her classmates from Cascade Christian's 8th grade science class, along with their teacher, Mr. Maves, addressed the Mayor and the Puyallup City Council at the City Council Meeting last night. The students made a presentation on their conservation efforts of the local Deer Creek habitat. The students have been studying the habitat this last quarter and have been monitoring the water quality of the creek. They presented their findings and request for the Council to continue sponsoring these activities.
Kaitlyn, and all the students, did an incredible job. One of the council members commented on the fact that they were so well spoken she had to keep reminding herself that these were junior high students and not high schoolers. Speaking in public, especially to the mayor, the city council, the police chief, the fire chief and a room full of strangers is no easy task. Great Job Kaitlyn!
